The wedge-locking principle
How Nord-Lock wedge locking works
Each Nord-Lock washer comes as a pair. Cams on the inside, teeth on the outside. The teeth grip the bolt head and the surface. The cams are steeper than the thread. So if the bolt tries to turn loose, the wedge pulls it tighter instead, and the turning stops.

See wedge locking explained
Nord-Lock explains the wedge-locking principle in this short Q&A. A washer pair grips the bolt head and the joint with its teeth, so any movement can only happen between the cams. Because the cams are steeper than the thread, a bolt that tries to turn loose is pulled tighter instead.

Common questions
What is a Nord-Lock washer?
A pair of washers that locks a bolt using wedge action, so vibration can’t loosen it.
Do Nord-Lock washers work with lubricated bolts?
Yes. Lubrication doesn’t affect the locking.
Can they be reused?
Yes, in most cases, depending on operating conditions.
Which bolt grades do they work with?
They are designed for bolts up to strength class 12.9.
When should I not use them?
On surfaces harder than the washer, or on joints that are not tightened to a set preload. Ask us if unsure.
